What is Stock Photography? Do you need top quality photos for a brochure, print ad, greeting card, text book, etc? Stock photos are images already taken by professional photographers and offered for licensing with prices based on how the photos will be used. Instead of paying a photographer to shoot a specific assignment, with no guarantee that you will get the exact image you are looking for, search a library of existing photos to find the right image for your project. Can I get a stock photo that hasn't been used before? Most images that are available from stock photography agencies are licensed for non-exclusive use and many stock photos are used multiple times. You can negotiate a price for exclusive use in an industry (like Greeting Cards, Financial Services, etc.) for a higher price. All photos available on Index Open are licensed as Royalty Free and are non-exclusive. How do I find the right stock photo? At Index Open, you can search our collection of over 200,000 stock photos with free text and keywords. At each step, you can target your search for images by using our Narrow Search feature. If you don’t find what you need, then try our larger collection of millions of photos at www.photolibrary.com. Who owns the stock photos? At Index Open and Photolibrary, the respective artists own all of the photos. We represent the artists and want to make sure that customer gets the stock photo that best meets their needs. Can I resell stock photography? No, you license stock images for a specific purpose. You cannot use the images for something that is outside the license that you paid for. With a paid subscription you may use a photo from Index Open as many times as you want, subject to the license agreement but you may not resell the photo to someone else.
